Our first Christmas Fair was a success!

Our first ever Witham Friary sustainable Christmas Fair was held on Sunday 8th December. We raised £450 which will be shared between us and the Village Hall Committee, we plan to use the money to fund the workshops and community days that we have planned for next year.

Even more important than the money raised was seeing the enthusiasm and the aspiration for having a more sustainable Christmas. Lots of ideas were displayed and demonstrated at the fair from making Christmas wrapping paper from brown paper, to salt dough decorations and parcel tags, bees wax wraps, homemade cotton dishcloths and flannels plus brilliant ways of making parcels look beautiful without plastic bows, tape or foil wrapping paper.

We would like to thank the stall holders, all those who gave so generously to the raffle and the café (the cakes were amazing) and especially all those who came and joined in the fun and were so keen to learn about sustainability.

As one lady said ‘It’s just about going back to the way we used to do things’.
